As a light VN with some RPG gameplay that requires you to pay attention, it's worth a go, IMO. But neither is it something I'd call "bad" either. It's not the best VN available, and it's certainly not the best RPG out there. Contrast with your average Final Fantasy game where you can safely avoid most special abilities and just power your way through fights. While a lot of the battles are pretty straightforward, there are quite a few(especially in MGQ3) that require you to make good use of your abilities and carefully watch for enemy cues in order to avoid defeat. Because there are no random battles, you cannot trivialize the combat by grinding levels. I would counter this by saying that there is definite character development in MGQ2 and MGQ3, and that the RPG combat can actually be more challenging than most JRPGs. ![]() It's the weakest RPG I've ever encountered. Also, don't believe the 'RPG' tag they slapped on it.
